Walking the talk

Walking the talk

22 August - 2008Andreas L2

So, this afternoon we sat down for our Brain Doodles session (that’s our weekly knowledge sharing and discussion club here at Socialsquare) to discuss how we can get more public exposure and help potential customers and other interested parties understand this new digital, social, and participatory world that we are advocating.

We soon agreed that what we do is exciting, cool and important all at once. So instead, we turned to the follow-up question: If we’re so hot, and doing so many cool things, why aren’t we getting all of the public exposure we so clearly deserve?

Well, as the discussion went on, somewhat fuelled by Friday afternoon beer, we came to the obvious conclusion that we’re not putting ourselves in the public eye as we should. We earn our keep telling organisations they should be more open, blog more, show their processes, and take the time to discuss what they do through their own website. And yet, we’ve failed to that for the past few months.

Sure, there’s been some summer holidays in that period of time. But really, we’ve thought ourselves too busy to blog. We’ve spent time on a lot of the same things that all growing companies have to deal with: New employees, new processes, new tools, new offices (soon…), and new projects. And in all of this, blogging just got forgotten to some extent. And not just the Socialsquare blog – if you check our own blogs (find them at the footer of this page), you’ll see that we haven’t even been very good to update those either.

And it’s not that we don’t want to. We love to be social, and we still believe that blogging is a social form of expression that allows for continuous conversation. We just got so carried away by all the other stuff that’s going on around us. And there’s absolutely no good reason as to why we shouldn’t blog about it.

So that was our conclusion today: It’s time to take our own medicine, practice what we preach and walk the talk that we’ve been talking for a long time already.

So, in the coming weeks you’ll be meeting a lot of new faces on this blog, you’ll be hearing a lot about our projects that we’ve been busy with over the summer, and about how we see the social and digital changes that are taking place around us. And since we’re still in a strange place where we have international ambitions but a mostly Danish audience, some posts will be in Danish and some will be in English.

Also, you’ll be seeing some changes to the website layout as we seek to make the Socialsquare website even more social. But until then, have a great weekend!

Excellent blog post Andreas – thanks for getting us started. And I am really determined not to write any e-mails for the next week!

And by the way – did you notice that weekdays and dates on our blog posts are in Danish now? (just skipped an internal e-mail there – one down – just 600 more to go :-)

    Thanks!

I did notice the week days are in Danish. That’s because we use a Danish version of WordPress. At some point soon, I’ll upgrade the site to an English version that’ll use English times and dates.
